Dave Chappelle recently hit Minneapolis, Minnesota, for a week of performances, and capped his stay with a charity event at which he played basketball with fans and served them pancakes.

The second season of Chappelle's Show featured a skit by Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy's brother, in which he recounted a story of being challenged to a late-night game of basketball by Prince. Prince and his "crew" easily beat Murphy and his friends, and later served them pancakes. (Chappelle played Prince in the skit.)

Chappelle described the impact of Prince's iconic film Purple Rain on his life in a rare interview, noting that he felt he should perform at First Avenue, the setting for so many scenes in the film, when he came to Minneapolis.

After his performances, Chappelle took part in a charitable event at Minneapolis's Target Center, where fans purchased tickets for a chance to shoot basketball with him. The money raised benefits the Minnesota Timberwolves' Fast Break Foundation, which is the team's youth outreach program. Afterward – appropriately – he served everyone pancakes.

Prince wasn't present, but did donate to the event. "Prince was very charitable tonight," Chappelle said.

For his contributions, Chappelle was awarded a star on the First Avenue wall. "I looked up and I saw that star that said Dave Chappelle. It was like getting the key to the city … I don’t have no star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or none of that, but I got that one in Minneapolis at First Avenue and that is all right with me, that’s plenty."
