A site "affiliated" with FOX and Seth MacFarlane's popular crass cartoon sitcom has cropped up – www.briansannouncement.com – and promises "a special announcement from Brian" with a countdown clock that shows the big reveal will happen on Dec. 6 at noon ET.
The sparse home page also features a blue sedan driving into the Griffin's mythical hometown of Quahog, Rhode Island, where the sign entices visitors to "come taste our clam."
Unfortunately for uber-fans "the producers have confirmed that the 'special announcement from Brian' website is a hoax and was not created by anyone connected to the show, studio or network," Family Guy studio 20th Century Fox TV said, according to Deadline.com.
Family Guy fans were shocked Sunday night when the family's acerbic, bipedal pooch died after being run over by a car. To make matters worse, if possible, evil genius best friend and sparring partner baby Stewie was unable to fix his broken time machine in order to save Brian.
The pooch's passing caused outrage among die-hard fans sad to lose the talking Labrador retriever, whose wit was as dry as his martinis.
According to Entertainment Weekly, one Alabama super-fan started a Change.org petition to bring Brian Griffin back to the show.
By Tuesday, it had more than 37,000 online signatures.
(Compounding the loss, the Griffin family has already gotten a new dog, Vinny, voiced by actor Tony Sirico, best remembered for playing Paulie Walnuts on The Sopranos.)
Is the fan love enough to bring Brian back? Will Zombie Brian make his debut? Will Brian prove once and for all that All Dogs Go to Heaven?
