Spidey's back – and he's as tortured as ever.

Sony released the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Thursday. And while there are some new faces, it's clear Peter Parker is still struggling to balance his duties as a web-slinging superhero with those of a regular guy in love.

"Every day I wake up knowing that the more people I try to save, the more enemies I will try to make, and it's just a matter of time until I face those with more power than I can overcome," we hear Spider-Man/Parker (Andrew Garfield) say in voiceover at the trailer's outset as he soars over New York City.

Emma Stone returns as love interest Gwen Stacy – the real-life couple's chemistry crackles onscreen as warmly as ever – as well as Sally Field and Martin Sheen as Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

Newcomers to the Marc Webb-directed franchise include Jamie Foxx, who plays the villain Electro (check out the trailer below to see him wickedly send jolts of electricity around the city), and Paul Giamatti as Rhino. Dane DeHaan plays Peter's old friend Harry Osborn, the son of OsCorp leader Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper). And, as we've learned, OsCorp is a company that apparently has sinister plans for almost everyone.

Despite this first look, anxious Spidey fans still have a long wait ahead: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 won't hit theaters until May 2, 2014.
