The Flying Tomato, as he's called, caught an edge on his landing, falling about 50-feet and face-planting. He was down for about five minutes and was clearly shaken after the scary crash at Mammoth Mountain, Calif.
"I haven't taken a hit like that in a long time," he told the Associated Press. But he ended up making the U.S. Olympic team for the third time and is headed to Sochi, Russia, next month.
"You crash, and then the next morning is when you really feel it," he said on Thursday. "I have a date with a tub full of ice right now. I'm so thankful to make that run and to be on top of the podium and headed to Sochi. I'm beside myself. It went from one side of the coin all the way to the other from this morning with that crash to, now, winning."
