Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent: Who's the Boss at Home?

"I always joke that I'm the boss of his whole life now that we're engaged, but the truth is I'm the boss of nothing at home. You have two designers planning a wedding," Berkus, 42, told PEOPLE at NBC's Television Critics Association event in Pasadena, Calif., on Sunday.
"We don't fight or argue about design decisions, we fight about important things like who gets the last piece of pizza. That's like death match," the reality TV personality and pal to Oprah Winfrey joked.
But Berkus admits he's not handy around the house.
"I point and then I complain. I'm awful. I can change a light fixture and I can do certain things. But I'm really bad in terms of construction. I can't do any of it on my own," he said.
What he lacks in handiness, he makes up for in design creativity, and Berkus is producing, judging and hosting a new show called American Dream Builders that will feature full home renovations by experts in the field.
"We cast people from the industry who are leaders from their own towns and we automatically raise the level of work we would see week after week," he said. "It's a reality competition show, 12 contestants [from] all over the country, and they are not trying to become the next anything because in their minds, they already are."
They have established companies, they are used to working with massive budgets," Berkus explained. "It's interesting to get 12 personalities who are used to being the boss come together and work as teammates. Every week they renovate two homes from top to bottom. We send one person home every week from each team."
American Dream Builders premieres March 23 on NBC at 8 p.m. ET.
