It was inevitable; 2013's supreme pop overlord, Beyoncé
, opened the 2014 Grammy Awards with a performance of "Drunk in Love."

She spent the better part of her performance in a chair (shades of Flashdance
), surrounded by swirling smoke. (Oddly, her hair looked wet, which was probably fitting with the song's "surfboard" lyric.)
Grammy censors ensured that the first chunk of Jay Z's verse was lost on viewers at home, but any people paying attention to that likely had it obliterated from their memory by the image of Bey and Jay Z dancing together and leading the crowd in a "surfboard."

As the power pair walked offstage arm-in-arm, the crowd gave Bey a standing ovation. LL Cool J opened his monologue with "Let's hear it one more time, everybody, for Beyoncé and Jay Z," which we'll probably be saying all night.
The only thing her performance was missing? Pharrell's hat. Can't get enough of Red Carpet Season? Be one of the first to get news on all the awards shows!
