Imagine being able to control and conquer your fears.
That's the case for Beatrice "Tris" Prior, the protagonist in Veronica Roth's popular best-selling YA trilogy-turned-film saga, Divergent.
On Tuesday, Summit Entertainment unveiled the final trailer before the film's March 21 release.
Played by Shailene Woodley, Tris opens the clip with an explanation of how her dystopian society works.
"One hundred years ago, after the war, our founders created a system that they believed would create lasting peace," she says. "They divided society into five factions ... Everyone is tested to determine who we are and where we belong."
Each is dedicated to a different virtue – Abnegation for the selfless, Dauntless for the brave, Amity for the peaceful, Candor for the honest and Erudite for the intelligent.
One problem? She doesn’t fall into any of them. Tris is Divergent.
"You don't fit into a category, they can't control you," warns her mother (played by Ashley Judd). "You can't trust anyone and you have to hide inside a faction to survive."
As she struggles to keep her identity a secret as a member of Dauntless, the sinister Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet) continues her hunt to eliminate anyone who is Divergent.
"It won’t be safe until they are removed," she says.
