Philip Seymour Hoffman's loved ones will say goodbye to the late Academy Award-winning actor in the state where he was born and died.

A rep for Hoffman told PEOPLE in a statement on Tuesday that there will be a private funeral service held in New York "for the family and close friends" of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire star, who was discovered with a needle stuck in his left forearm when he was found dead of an apparent heroin overdose on Sunday at age 46.

Plans are underway for a memorial service later in the month, which will also be in New York.

"In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Phil's name to two charities that were very close to his heart: The DreamYard Project and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation," the rep said, adding, "The family wishes to thank everyone for their continued support and good wishes."
