Bruno Mars had a lot to celebrate on Sunday.

The "Locked Out of Heaven" crooner aced his halftime performance during Super Bowl with dance moves that could only be pulled off by a true pro.

So what did he do to decompress after his extravagant act? He headed to TAO Downtown night club for his own private party with family and close friends, a source tells PEOPLE.

"Bruno arrived and was ready to get the party started and did a round of shots at the bar with his crew," the source says. "He started dancing when Michael Jackson came on. Everyone danced all night and at one point Bruno got into the middle of a dance circle as the crowd cheered."

Perhaps the partying was a little excessive for the star, because Monday night's outing was much more low-key.

Mars popped into Big Apple hotspot Beauty & Essex at around 8:00 p.m. with six people.

"He was being very coy about his presence," an observer says. "He was using the back entrance to both enter and exit the premises."

The singer, casually clad in a graphic T-shirt, a down puff jacket and A's cap, munched on a slew of specialties with his group, including, grilled cheese and tomato soup dumplings, chipotle shrimp, lobster tacos, lobster mac and cheese, heritage pork baby back ribs and pan-roasted scallops.

The group kept things very mellow with the conversation seeming "super subdued," the observer says, adding that Mars stuck to Diet Coke all night.
