It's been a particularly trying week for PEOPLE readers, with several sad stories leading the way in the news – in particular, of course, the tragic death of renowned actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Dylan Farrow's open letter alleging sexual abuse by Woody Allen also got a shocked reaction, and the firing of the musical director and band at Dancing with the Stars had readers seeing red.

Thankfully, there were other stories that readers loved, or elicited a chuckle.

Below are the five stories that got the strongest reactions from PEOPLE.com readers this week, from happy, sad, laugh out loud, and angry – to wow. To let us know what you think of what's going on in the news, click on the icons at the bottom of every story.

Love An Alabama surgeon, Dr. Zenko Hrynkiw, walked six miles through a snowstorm to operate on – and save – a dying man in the best-loved story of the week.

Wow In an open letter in The New York Times, Dylan Farrow claimed she was sexually abused 20 years ago by her then adoptive father, Woody Allen, and that the assault was far worse than people knew.

Angry Readers didn't react too kindly to the news six-time Tony Award-nominated bandleader and orchestrator Harold Wheeler and his group of musicians and singers are not being asked back for the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars.

Sad An outpouring of grief met the news that Philip Seymour Hoffman, the Oscar-winning star of Capote and one of the most acclaimed screen and stage actors of his generation, died of an apparent drug overdose at age 46.

LOL The Winter Olympics are set to lift people's spirits, but no one expected it to start out with Tweets from journalists about inadequate facilities – like hotels without finished lobbies – that many readers found amusing.
