Sure, Valentine's Day can be a romantic celebration with a significant other, but it's also a time to embrace being unattached.
Helen Fielding – creator of Bridget Jones, whose relationship ups and downs have played out from novels to the big screen – created a playlist for all the single ladies out there on Feb. 14 that lists music Bridget (played by Renée Zellweger
) would approve of.
Sharing the selection of songs exclusively with PEOPLE readers, the list contains everything from "Crazy for You" by Madonna
, to "Littlest Things" by Lily Allen, and naturally, "Have You Met Miss Jones?" by Robbie Williams.
"How fast things change," Fielding says. "It was cassette compilations when I first wrote Bridget Jones
. In Mad About the Boy
, 21st-century Bridget is into Twitter and texting. Spotify is made for Bridget-type solitary drunken dancing evenings. The important thing is to remember not to text during them."
Adds the author, "A Mad About the Boy
Spotify playlist [is] for any Bridget Joneses out there who find themselves spending Valentine’s Day alone – with a bottle of vodka."
