She got knocked down – repeatedly – but Jen Welter got right back up again.
The 5'2", 130-lb. athlete, who became the first woman
to play running back in a men's pro football game (the 8-on-8 Indoor Football League) on Saturday, got dropped for a loss during the game, but that didn't faze her one bit.
"I said, 'Is that all you got?' " Welter, 36, told the Dallas Morning News
"They were getting all alive and I had to say something," she said. "I didn't want them to think I was intimidated."
Welter, who played running back for the Texas Revolution in a game against the North Texas Crunch, finished with three rushes for a loss of one yard, but her team still managed to beat the Crunch 64-30.
She says she hopes to break down barriers for other female athletes. "It's really not about me," she said. "It's about them and the future of the sport."
