Amy Adams tearfully paid tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman during a taping of Inside the Actors Studio earlier this month, honoring her frequent costar as "a beautiful spirit" both on- and offscreen.

"I just really loved him, and I know so many people did," the Oscar-nominated actress declared through broken sobs. "I just don't know how much more I can talk about it right now, sorry."

Adams, 39, spoke to host James Lipton about Hoffman in front of a live audience on Feb. 5, just three days after Hoffman's shocking death from an apparent overdose, and two days before she attended his private funeral in New York City. The episode aired Wednesday on Bravo.

Although news of his death was still plainly raw for her during the taping, the American Hustle Best Actress nominee managed to say a bit more in homage of the man she costarred with onscreen in Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt and The Master.

"He was a beautiful spirit and he had this unique ability to see people, to really see them, not look through them," she said. "He just really saw people, and he will be missed."

Adams also praised both Hoffman and Meryl Streep while discussing their film Doubt, which earned all three actors Oscar nominations.

"The things I value about actors, there's talent, there's skill, but without work ethic, without that generosity of spirit to take people with you on that brilliant journey that you take ... both Meryl and Philip have this ability to create ... it's transformative," she said.
