A Dayton, Ohio, bus driver is recovering after being shot three times in a random act of violence. Unbelievably, police say Rickey Wagoner's life was saved by the religious book he kept in his shirt pocket, which stopped the bullets.

The 49-year-old Wagoner's bus stopped running early Monday morning; he was standing outside the vehicle, attempting to repair it, when three men assaulted him. Three shots were fired; one struck him in the right leg and the other two were fired into his chest.

"The two bullets [in his chest] were stopped by the New Testament book in his [shirt] pocket," Sgt. Michael Pauley of the Dayton Police Department told the Dayton Daily News. (The book, The Message, is a version of the Bible's New Testament in contemporary language. It was created by Eugene H. Peterson.)

"There was obviously some kind of intervention involved in this incident, because he probably should not be here," Pauley said.

Wagoner fought with his assailants; the police report states that he stabbed one of the men in the leg with an aluminum pen after being shot.

There's a Michael Bay movie in here somewhere, we just know it.

Fun fact: A recent episode of Mythbusters was partially dedicated to exploring the bullet-stopping powers of a wallet – it failed. So maybe there is something miraculous about Ricky's luck. (The relevant portion of this video starts around the two-minute mark.)
