Bill Murray is speaking out about the death of his frequent collaborator and old friend, Harold Ramis.

In a statement issued to Time through his lawyer, Murray recounted the long list of successful projects the two friends made together.

"Harold Ramis and I together did the National Lampoon Show off Broadway, Meatballs, Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day," Murray said. "He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him."

Ramis died Monday from a rare autoimmune disease. He was 69.

The actor, writer and director was considered a legend by young comedians and was known for his incredibly dry wit.

In 2009, Ramis told the A.V. Club that he and Murray, 63, hadn't spoken since filming Groundhog Day. But he expressed hope that the two would reconcile and praised the Monuments Men actor's career.

"I've had many dreams about him, that we're friends again. There was a great reunion feeling in those dreams. Bill was a strong man," he said. "I could help him be the best Bill Murray he could be, and I think he appreciated that then. And I don't know where that went, but it's there on film."
