The frontman for the San Diego-based, Grammy-nominated metal band As I Lay Dying pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempting to arrange the murder of his estranged wife for $1,000, according to reports.

Tim Lambesis, 32, was first arrested in May of 2013 for soliciting an undercover agent to kill his wife, Meggan Lambesis. His reason for wanting her dead, the agent reportedly testified in a preliminary hearing, was that she was going to receive more than half of his income after she filed for divorce in 2012 after eight years of marriage – and she wouldn't let their three young children go on tour with him.

After being introduced to the agent, Lambesis allegedly provided him with an envelope containing $1,000, his wife's address, gate codes to access her home and information about her whereabouts, the agent testified. He also allegedly told the agent to perform the hit on a day when he had custody of the children, to provide him with an alibi.

After pleading guilty in a San Diego court on Tuesday, he now faces up to nine years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He will be formally sentenced on May 2 in Vista Superior Court, north of San Diego.
