Little, Brown Books for Young Readers announced in a press release Tuesday that it would be publishing Richards's Gus & Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar, an account of Richards's early life with his jazz guitarist grandfather, who encouraged him to pick up the instrument.
"I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I’m talking about," Richards, 70, said in the release. "The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me."
Richards's main collaborator for the project will be his 28-year-old daughter, Theodora Dupree Richards. While Theodora's best known for her modeling work, she also studied at New York Academy of Art and the School of Visual Arts. She'll be illustrating the book with pen and ink, while her dad will prepare the text with co-writers Barnaby Harris and Bill Shapiro.
