Scott Eastwood (and his abs) earned immediate sex symbol status following his hunky photo shoot in Town & Country last fall.

However, Eastwood immediately played down his mega-hunk status to focus on his acting career. Six months later, it seems little has changed, as the thespian – who can next be seen in Fury alongside Brad Pitt and Shia LeBeouf – remains decidedly humble about his good looks and newfound fame.

"My life doesn't change. I still have to go out and work hard every day, and do the best that I can do," he told PEOPLE Wednesday at the Sabatoge premiere in Los Angeles. "I'm a third generation Californian, and there's a lot of talented, good-looking guys in California, so I'm just happy to be working, and lucky to be working."

Yet he has one key thing his fellow California hunks don't share: the ability to call the legendary Clint Eastwood dad.

The father-son duo share a passion for acting, and more than a passing resemblance to one another – a fact the younger Eastwood embarrassingly laughs off when asked whether it's ever been an impediment to share his Oscar-winning father's good genes.

"I don't think that you can look at it like that," says Scott, who has been romantically linked to country singer Jana Kramer. "I've had a lot of great opportunities that most people dream about, so no, I'm just grateful to have the opportunities that I've had."

In the recent past, he also hasn't been shy about praising his actor/director dad, both for his career and the life lessons he's taught him.

"My father taught me not to overthink things," he told Town & Country in February for their top 50 bachelors issue. "That nothing will ever be perfect, so just keep moving and do your best."
