Elizabeth Vargas is going to open up about her battle with alcoholism in a new memoir.

The 20/20 co-anchor, who went to rehab in November, has sold the rights to the book to Grand Central Publishing, which will release the book in spring 2016. Vargas says she hopes that by telling her story she'll be able to provide guidance to others who are battling addiction.

"When I first began to worry about my own drinking, I turned to books other women had written about their own alcoholism," Vargas, 51, said in a statement on Thursday.

"I learned I was not alone, and it helped me find the courage to reach out and get help," she continued. "I have spent my entire life telling other people's stories. This one is my own, and is incredibly personal: the burden and the loneliness of the secret drinker."

Vargas, who's married to singer Marc Cohn and has two sons, Zachary, 11, and Samuel, 7½, returned to TV in January after treatment.

Her candid memoir will reveal how she found herself living a double life and include details of her time in rehab and her recovery process.

"If just one other person can relate to it," she says, "it will make my own story worth writing, and I will have paid the gift forward."
