Channing Tatum in Magic Mike
Apparently, size does matter.
On the heels of its surprisingly massive success with both critics and audiences, Magic Mike
has now officially gotten a sequel – and, if its title is any indication, the follow-up is jostling to be a real biggie.
reports that the sequel – a follow-up to the 2012 quasi-autobiography loosely based on star Channing Tatum
's exploits as a stripper – will be titled Magic Mike XXL
. It will be released July 3, 2015, The Hollywood Reporter
Details are scant on exactly how the sequel will play out or who's on board, but one key marquee draw is supposedly attached: Tatum himself
, who'll reportedly be co-writing the script.
He's already hinted as much: In February, he posted a sidesplitting photo
on Instagram showing him holding a notepad while gazing at a bust of Magic Mike
costar Matthew McConaughey
"What better way to start writing #MagicMike2 than with my old friend Dallas? #runatribe," he captioned the snapshot, which name-checked McConaughey's character in the film.
Last June, he also confirmed to the The Hollywood Reporter
that a sequel was brewing, saying, "It will be a road-trip movie, and it will essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be."
Anticipation is running high for a Magic Mike
redux: The first film shook its moneymaker to the tune of $167 million worldwide, scored with critics and even nabbed an acting award for McConaughey at the 2013 Independent Spirit Awards, making talk of a sequel all but inevitable.
Guess fans will have to wait to find out if bigger really is
