SKIN CARE• Oscar winner , 27, is known for her hourglass figure and to-die-for bee-stung lips. But a lesser-known fact is that the actress – star of the upcoming sequel to Tomb Raider – has great feet, too. Her manicurist, Marsha Bialo, advises clients to keep their soles soft and smooth with an easy, homemade exfoliant, InStyle noted in spring 2002: Mix 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of poppy seeds, 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, and a few drops of lemon juice. Scrub feet and rinse.

• Sure, you can buy those ready-made cleansing wipes at the store – or you can borrow this less expensive home remedy from makeup artist Mally Roncal (who has worked with 39-year-old Friends star Lisa Kudrow): Soak thick paper napkins in almond oil (available at health food stores). Then, just store and carry the makeup- and dirt-removing cloths in Ziploc bags. "Almond oil is extremely gentle and doesn't cause break-outs," Roncal told InStyle in spring 2002. Plus, "everyone loves the smell."

• Though Patricia Arquette, star of last year's Human Nature, grew up on a hippie commune in Virginia and counts glamor as a low priority, she still wants to maintain clear, healthy skin. So the actress uses a homemade scrub-peel, she told InStyle in April 2002. Her recipe: Mix finely ground chickpea flour with yogurt and some honey until it reaches a medium consistency; spread it over your face and lie back for half an hour. "Once it has dried you rub it in circles to flake it all off," Arquette, 35, explained. "Your skin feels like a baby's afterward."

• It seems that diamonds actually are a girl's best friend – especially when it comes to getting gorgeous skin. Mrs. Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards (star of last year's Undercover Brother), indulges in a bling-bling facial at her Hollywood salon. "I was hesitant to try the diamond peel," she said of the procedure that uses crushed diamonds to resurface the skin. "However, since my first treatment, my skin has never looked better. I am addicted," the actress, 32, told PEOPLE in February 2002.

Brittany Murphy, a Hollywood It girl and star of the movie comedy Just Married (costarring her real-life beau, Ashton Kutcher), has a few tips for keeping skin gorgeous. She uses all types of products – from inexpensive drugstore finds like Johnson & Johnson's Baby Wash to luxury items like Crème de la Mer products – but says the best way to achieve "radiant, glowing" skin is to be in love. "Love does wonders for your look," Murphy, 25, told InStyle in December 2002. "True beauty comes from the inside out."

• You can take Shania Twain out of the country, but you can't take the country out of Shania. The diva, whose latest album, Up, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top 200 list, grew up in rural Canada – and knows many off-the-beaten-path beauty tricks. Her favorite? Bag Balm, which the 37-year-old singer uses to keep her peaches-and-cream skin as smooth as ... a cow's udder, the Montreal Gazette reported in January. That's right, the moisturizer is actually designed to soften chapped goat and cow teats for milking. Who knew?
