AWARDED: Steven Spielberg received an honorary doctorate degree from Yale University Monday for a career that has included films such as "Jaws" and "Schindler's List," reports the Associated Press. "Your movies entertain, engage and enlighten," said university president Richard Levin. "For your artistry and imagination, we honor you with this degree of doctor of humane letters" . . . BORN: Sylvester Stallone, 55, and his wife, Jennifer Flavin Stallone, 33, welcomed their third child, daughter Scarlet Rose (7 lbs., 8 ozs., 22 inches long), born at 1:39 p.m. Saturday at a Los Angeles hospital, their publicist said Tuesday. "Mom and baby are doing fantastic, she is home already, and Sylvester Stallone is ecstatic with his third daughter," said the rep, Paul Bloch. Stallone and Flavin have two other daughters, Sophia, 5, and Sistine, 3, and he has two sons, Sergio and Sage, from a previous marriage. . . PASSED: Chris Columbus, 43, will not direct "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," the third film in the series about the boy wizard. According to Variety, San Francisco-based Columbus told Warner Bros. (which, like PEOPLE, is part of AOL Time Warner) that he has lived in England long enough and is antsy to bring his family home. Among the possible replacements, says the trade paper: Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron, 40, responsible for this year's sexy "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and 1995's G-rated "A Little Princess" . . . ANNOUNCED: Italian couturier Giorgio Armani, 67, will be named United Nations goodwill ambassador for his work on behalf of Afghan refugees, the U.N. refugee agency said Tuesday in Rome. Angelina Jolie, 26, is another high-profile ambassador . . . RESIGNED: Elton John has left his position as chairman of the Watford Football Club, ending a 25-year association with the English soccer club (and a 5-year reign as chair), reports Reuters. "With the huge changes taking place in football, it is obviously necessary for the board to be led by a chairman who will be able to devote more time to the club than I have been able to," John said in a statement posted on the Watford Web site.
