DISCOVERED: PT 109, the WWII patrol boat famously captained by Lt. John F. Kennedy and sunk by a Japanese destroyer in August 1943, has been found about 236 miles northwest of the Solomon Islands by U.S. oceanographer Robert Ballard, the man who tracked down the Titanic, the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reported Wednesday. Ballard would not release any details of his find due to contractual obligations over film, magazine and book rights to his search. A National Geographic documentary is to be released in November. Coincidence or not, Wednesday would have been JFK's 85th birthday. Also found, reports the Associated Press, is the .38-caliber Taurus revolver used to kill Tejano singer Selena, which surfaced at the home of the court reporter from assassin Yolanda Saldivar's 1995 trial. Former court reporter Sandra Oballe didn't know she was in possession of the weapon, Nueces County District Attorney Carlos Valdez told the AP. It was found when investigators asked her to check her old office supplies . . . DIED: MILLIE BENSON, 96, who under the pen name of Carolyn Keene wrote 23 of the first 30 "Nancy Drew" novels in the 1930s, '40s and '50s, died Tuesday after taking ill earlier in the day at her desk at the Toledo Blade, where she had been a reporter for decades, reports CNN. Also reported dead: "MRS. GREENTHUMBS," whose real name was Cassandra Danz, age unreported, according to the "Live with Regis and Kelly" Web site. "Our beloved Mrs. Greenthumbs passed away on Saturday, May 25th, after a battle with cancer," reads the tribute.
