Accuser of Dion's Husband Out of Jail

Yun Kyeong Sung Kwon, 46, a Korean immigrant who claims she was raped by the husband of Celine Dion, has been released from jail after agreeing to repay more than $550,000 to Harrah's Las Vegas casino in a bad check case, reports the Associated Press. Authorities told the news service that Kwon, a California resident, was released during the night without bail from the Clark County Detention Center after having agreed to pay back the casino by next May. Should she not make good on the debts, which were reportedly incurred in 1999 and 2001, she will face four felony charges that could each carry a sentence of up to four years behind bars. Kwon is due back in court on July 1 to show records of her payments. Kwon's husband, Ae H. Kwon, claimed on Wednesday that the charges were part of a conspiracy involving Dion's husband and manager, Rene Angelil, to discredit him and his wife, says the AP. As reported by PEOPLE in April, Kwon, an ordained minister of the Full Gospel World Church, made news when she and her husband filed a complaint on March 15 claiming that Angelil, 60, had fondled her in an elevator and then sexually assaulted her at Caesars Palace in March 2000. (The couple did not file a police report until two years after the alleged incident, and, besides seeking $40,000 in damages, they have asked the court to overturn a settlement reached with Angelil in June 2000, reports the AP.) When the story first surfaced, Angelil's lawyer Martin Singer called the charges "a complete fabrication." Another attorney for Angelil, David Chesnoff, said he hopes authorities will consider Kwon's "credibility and motivation." Las Vegas police are still investigating the case, the AP reported Thursday.
