MADONNA PLAYS SCROOGE?

Madonna was acting frugal the other day, reports New York magazine. The Material Mom popped into the hoity-toity stationers Dempsey & Carroll on Manhattan's 57th Street "armed with a photo of (her daughter) Lourdes, which she proudly announced she had taken herself," to order 50 Christmas cards. The star reportedly chose cards with a Tibetan greeting and wanted the photo attached to each one of them. When informed, however, that the store would charge a dollar per card to paste in the snapshot -- a cost of an additional 50 bucks -- Madonna said she'd affix the picture herself. "Well," said the magazine, "the $50 should buy her a couple of Prada shoelaces."
