In the wake of Prince Edward's engagement to Sophie Rhys-Jones, news about the couple is at a premium. The Mail on Sunday reported that illness has robbed the groom-to-be of his first choice for Supporter (the Royal equivalent of best man). "The Prince wanted to depart from the Royal tradition of having a brother at his side by choosing his close friend and PR adviser Abel Hadden," said the paper. "But in the months leading up to the engagement announcement, Hadden, 45, was diagnosed with bladder cancer and is currently recovering from major surgery." Prince Edward's Supporter will now be the Duke of York, who had Edward as his Supporter when he married Sarah Ferguson.
As for a wedding date, the Sun tabloid says June 19 is the day to circle on the calendar. "The lovebirds have made a firm booking for the ceremony, which will be attended by 500 guests in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. A further 500 will attend a lavish buffet reception in the castle's St. George's Grand Hall."
