Garth Brooks is back to spring training. The country singer returned to the San Diego Padres camp in Arizona Thursday after taking a few days off to be with his mother, Colleen Brooks, who underwent surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles to remove a cancerous spot from her mouth. "She's doing fine. They feel like everything's great," Capitol Records spokesman Scott Stem said. "She's going to accompany Garth to spring training." Brooks, 37, left camp Saturday after tests during his mother's regular monthly checkup raised suspicions of cancer. He had been invited to camp as a way for him to kick-start his Touch 'Em All Foundation. He has no chance of making the big-league roster and would be sent to a minor-league team only if he showed he was competitive.
