In Las Vegas' never-ending game of themed casinos, there are now plans for a ship-shaped gambling palace bearing a striking resemblance to the Titanic. City officials say proposals have been submitted for a 1,000-room hotel just north of the Stratosphere hotel, casino and tower (which has a roller coaster at its peak). The development would be on the site of the Thunderbird Hotel, which is owned by casino figure Bob Stupak. Stupak, who founded the Stratosphere and later relinquished his role in the financially-plagued project, isn't talking about the new hotel-casino, which would be known as The Boat. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Boat would have 1,000 rooms, or "cabins," 18,000 square feet of retail space, 12,000 square feet of conference rooms and 30,000 square feet for restaurants and a lounge. At least $300 million would be spent on the project.
