Jamie Lee Curtis chose not to bring her own children, Thomas, 3, and Annie, 12, to Monday's annual White House Easter Egg Roll, where she was among the storytellers. Instead, she made their own hollowed-out and bejeweled Easter eggs at home on Good Friday. To hollow out the eggs, you put a hole in each one and "blow out the goop," the actress and children's book author tells PEOPLE's Amanda Crawford. "They last forever that way. I still have some I made 10 years ago." Early Easter morning, before she caught her plane to Washington, Curtis hid the eggs around the house and left chocolate-filled baskets for her kids. "This would not have been fun for them," she said of the White House scene, where eager parents clustered for autographs. "My kids want only me to be with them. Kids don't want other people to want their mommy."
