Prince William had a minor operation on his left index finger, which he broke while playing rugby, a Palace spokeswoman said. The prince, 16, was admitted Saturday to the Pulvertaft Hand Center at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in central England. While under a general anesthetic, William's finger was "stabilized with pins and wires," the spokeswoman said Sunday. William returned home later on Saturday with his left arm in a sling. He had fractured the finger while playing rugby before Christmas, and it had been causing him some discomfort, the spokeswoman said.
