Amy Fisher walked out of prison Monday after serving nearly seven years for shooting her lover's wife in the head in a case that once dominated tabloid headlines. Fisher, known as the "Long Island Lolita" in tabloid headlines and TV movies, wore sunglasses, kept her head bowed and did not answer questions as she walked past reporters and photographers outside the Albion (N.Y.) Correctional Facility. Accompanied by her mother and attorney Bruce Barket, Ms. Fisher got into a van and later boarded a charter flight from Rochester to Farmingdale, Long Island. "She's obviously extremely happy and thankful to the people who brought this about," Barket said, including shooting victim Mary Jo Buttafuoco, who helped win an early release for Fisher, among those being thanked.

• Barket said Fisher would be living in the New York City area and would work in a fashion-industry job. She will be on parole until 2003.
