After nearly a year of negotiations between the filmmaker and the government, George Lucas's Lucasfilm Ltd. has been granted the right to develop 23 acres of coveted San Francisco land at the former Presidio Army base. The Presidio Trust, a congressionally-appointed committee that is overseeing the land's transition from a military base to an income-generating park and office site, made the announcement Monday. The site will be known as the Letterman Digital Arts Center and will house part of Lucas's film and technology empire, including Industrial Light & Magic, LucasArts Entertainment Company and the THX Group.
