- The Kennedy family plans a small private Mass "to celebrate the lives of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr." at 11 a.m. on Friday at New York's Church of St. Thomas More, where John's mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, worshipped. The White House has confirmed that President and Mrs. Clinton will attend. New York's Irish community has set a public memorial service for the Kennedys tonight at Old St. Patrick's Cathedral in lower Manhattan. An invitation-only memorial service for Lauren Bessette is planned for Saturday evening at Christ Church in Greenwich, Conn.
- Those wishing to send condolences to the Kennedy family may mail them to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's office at 315 Russell Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510. People can also sign condolence books at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum in Boston, and at the JFK National Historic Site in Brookline, Mass. (The condolence books will be given to Caroline Kennedy to share with the family of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and Lauren Bessette, and then will returned to the library's archives, said a Kennedy Library spokesman.)
- The parents of Carolyn and Lauren have asked that instead of flowers, contributions be sent for Carolyn Bessette Kennedy to Kids in Crisis, 1 Salem St., Cos Cob, Conn. 06807. For Lauren Bessette, donations may be sent to The Lauren G. Bessette Foundation, c/o Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Corporate Communications, 1221 Ave. of the Americas, 26th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10020.

The ashes of John F. Kennedy Jr. were scattered at sea Thursday morning, along with those of the other two victims of last Friday night's plane crash, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and her sister Lauren Bessette. The burial at sea, the latest step in a tragedy that has gripped the nation for nearly a week, was handled in the waters off Cape Cod from aboard the USS Briscoe, a 563-foot Navy destroyer.
