While political pros and standup comics alike contemplate a Warren Beatty presidency, voters in the Virginia-born star's adopted home state of California aren't taking to the idea so far. A new Field Poll shows that just 1% of the Golden State's registered Democrats want Beatty for president. The poll shows Vice President Al Gore with a comfortable lead over Democratic challenger Bill Bradley in California, while Texas Gov. George W. Bush has a commanding lead over the rest of the Republicans running for their party's presidential nomination. Nevertheless, Minnesota ad exec Bill Hillsman, who helped get Jesse Ventura elected governor, said on the "Today" show yesterday that he has met with Beatty and believes Mr. Hollywood is serious about running.
