After a summer-long search, CBS will announce today that it has hired ABC News correspondent Jane Clayson to be Bryant Gumbel's on-air partner on the Manhattan-based "Early Show" (the revamped "CBS This Morning"), say reports. The morning news show will begin broadcasting in November. Clayson, who is currently based in Los Angeles, is a reporter for "World News Tonight" and has worked at ABC since 1996. Prior to that she was a reporter and anchor at a local station in Salt Lake City. CNBC's Maria Bartiromo, ABC's Elizabeth Vargas, NBC's Dawn Fratangelo and CBS's Thalia Assuras were among the women reportedly vying for the chair next to Gumbel's.
