Diana's Supreme Embarrassment

01/01/1999 at 12:00 AM EST

A weary-looking Diana Ross told reporters who met her Concorde flight at New York's JFK Airport Wednesday night that she was "treated like a criminal" by airport officials in London after they detained her for more than four hours following an altercation with security. The singer, 55, will not face charges for the incident, which happened after she was frisked by a female security guard. "I travel a lot. The security checks usually use metal detectors," said Ross. "This woman went all around my body and up and down my legs. I felt very uncomfortable. I wanted to complain, but no one listened to me." When Ross asked the guard, "How would you feel in this situation?" and touched her, the guard complained and Ross was arrested. "I reacted because I was upset," Ross said.
