Billy Crystal bought one of Mickey Mantle's old gloves at a Sotheby's auction of baseball memorabilia in New York on Monday for $239,000, far exceeding the pre-auction selling-price estimate of $10,000 to $20,000. (The legendary Yankee wore the glove around 1960. He died in 1995.) At the unveiling of a red granite monument honoring Mantle in 1996, Crystal recalled how as a 9-year-old boy in 1956 he watched in awe as Mantle blasted a home run off the right-field fence at Yankee Stadium.
