Ford: Rings in New Ear

Reaction was decidedly unmixed at Sunday night's New York premiere of the new Harrison Ford movie, "Random Hearts." Most found it awfully boring, reports PEOPLE's New York bureau. What did catch people's attention, however, was Ford's earring. In the flick he wears a large sparkler; in person, a tiny gold post. "I've had it for a couple of years," Ford said of the adornment during the post-screening party at Tavern on the Green. "It's just an earring. It's a big deal to the press. I guess they have nothing else to talk about."

  • Ford wasn't talking much about the film himself. "The characters, the predicament, the circumstances, the chance to work with Sydney (Pollack, the director) again," the taciturn star told PEOPLE when asked what drew him to the part of a police sergeant in the slow-going movie. "I like my work. It's fun for me to do what I do."
