Ben Affleck says there is absolutely no truth to tabloid gossip that he and Matt Damon are more than friends. "I like to think that if I were gay I would be out, Rupert Everett-style," Affleck reveals in the October issue of Vanity Fair. (Everett is an openly gay actor.) The movie "Good Will Hunting," which boyhood buddies Affleck and Damon co-wrote and starred in, probably helped fuel the rumors, he says. (The two also went seemingly everywhere in tandem to promote the movie.) As for what does wind his clock, Affleck admits he has a limited capacity for compromise and, for now, lacks the willingness to put his energy into a romantic relationship.
- "The reason I'm single is because I wouldn't want to be with anybody right now who would be willing to be with me," Affleck tells the magazine -- sounding a lot like Groucho Marx, who once said he would never belong to a country club that would have him as a member.
