Kiefer 'Confidential'

Kiefer Sutherland may join the cast of a TV series based on the 1997 film ''L.A. Confidential,'' Variety reports. Sutherland is negotiating to play the role based on the movie's Sgt. Jack Vincennes (played by Kevin Spacey in the film). No word on when the series is scheduled to bow. The son of actor Donald Sutherland has appeared only occasionally on the small screen, most recently in 1993 when he directed and starred in the Showtime TV movie ''Last Light.'' He also appeared on that cable network's drama series ''Fallen Angels.'' Sutherland, who was once engaged to Julia Roberts before she backed out of their scheduled wedding at the last minute, also appears in the upcoming film "Picking Up the Pieces" with Woody Allen and Sharon Stone. He just finished filming ''Beat'' with Courtney Love, in which he stars as author William S. Burroughs.
