Retired German tennis champion Boris Becker has a jones for acting. He told the German weekly tabloid "Bunte" this week that the acting bug bit him when he began doing commercial endorsements on German television during his career. "I have long harbored secret ambitions of getting into acting after my tennis career ended,'' said Becker. ''But I haven't yet received a concrete proposal." The 31-year-old won six Grand Slams and a total of 49 tournaments before retiring last year. In 1985, he popularized tennis in his native country after winning his first Wimbledon title at age 17.

Stephen M. Silverman is on vacation. He will return to The Daily in two weeks.
