Kennedy Kin Surrenders

Michael Skakel, a nephew of the late Robert F. Kennedy, posted $500,000 bond after he surrendered to Greenwich, Conn., police on Wednesday, reopening the book on a sensational -- and unsolved -- 24-year-old murder case. The victim, Martha Moxley (a neighbor of Skakel's), 15, was bludgeoned to death with a golf club on the night of Oct. 30, 1975, on the grounds of her parents' estate. Because Skakel, long considered the prime suspect, was 15 at the time of the killing, he was charged in the murder warrant as a juvenile yesterday. He returned to his home in Hobe Sound, Fla., pending arraignment in Stamford Juvenile Court on Feb. 8. The case could get stalled in juvenile court for a year or more if Skakel's lawyer fights attempts to transfer the case to adult court. Now 39, Skakel maintains his innocence, says his attorney.
