More Y2K Events Canceled

One day after Seattle called off its Y2K celebration under the Space Needle, two more millennium celebrations were canceled. Reuters reports two musical New Year's parties were nixed. An Australian TV network also had to pull the plug on a planned broadcast of performances by the Spice Girls, Aerosmith and Phil Collins, due to insufficient funding. A Washington, D.C. party to feature performances by rock bands Third Eye Blind and Everclear was also abruptly canceled on Wednesday. Organizers gave no reason for the news. Meanwhile, the big Washington, D.C., celebration on the Mall is still scheduled, with the President and First Lady both expected to take part in the festivities. But before Bill Clinton rings in the new, he'll address the children of this new century on kid cable network Nickelodeon, during a 7 p.m. broadcast.

With additional reporting by Simon Perry and Nina Biddle in the PEOPLE London Bureau.
