After good reviews on the big screen but only so-so box-office results, former "ER" star George Clooney will return to the small screen to star in "Fail-Safe," a TV play scheduled for live broadcast Sunday, April 9, on CBS. The drama is based on both the 1962 best-selling novel and the 1964 feature film of the same name, in which Cold War tensions mount when a U.S. bomber is accidentally ordered to drop a nuclear warhead on Moscow. (In exchange, the Russians get to nuke New York.) Clooney, who will also serve as executive producer of the project, will play the role of Col. Jack Grady, a U.S. Air Force bomber pilot assigned to what he imagines will be just another routine flight.
