Critics may have held their noses, but moviegoers turned out in droves for two youth comedies this weekend. "Down to You" and "Next Friday" topped the box office list, according to industry estimates. Their hit status is being viewed as a reaction to the recent run of such adult-oriented movies such as "The Green Mile," "The Cider House Rules" and "Magnolia." The weekend list:
1. "Down to You," $8.3 million.
2. "Next Friday," $8.2 million.
3. "The Hurricane," $7 million.
4. "Stuart Little," $6.5 million.
5. "The Green Mile," $5.5 million.
6. "Galaxy Quest," $4.8 million.
7. "Girl, Interrupted," $4.4 million.
8. "The Talented Mr. Ripley," $3.9 million.
9. "Play It to the Bone," $3.5 million.
10. " Angela's Ashes," $3.3 million.
