'Beauty' Leads Actors' Race
Oscar, take note: Golden Globe favorite "American Beauty" received four nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Tuesday, more than any other film. Nods went to Kevin Spacey as best actor, Annette Bening (actress), Chris Cooper (supporting actor) and for ensemble acting. "The Sopranos" led the TV field with five nominations, including best actor for James Gandolfini. He'll compete with David Duchovny ("The X-Files"), Dennis Franz and Rick Schroder ("NYPD Blue") and Martin Sheen ("The West Wing"). In the TV comedy race, "Ally McBeal" received performance nods for Calista Flockhart, Lucy Liu, Peter MacNicol and ensemble acting. Other nominees for lead actor in a movie: Jim Carrey ("Man on the Moon"), Russell Crowe ("The Insider"), Philip Seymour Hoffman ("Flawless") and Denzel Washington ("The Hurricane"). Other nominees for lead actress in a movie: Julianne Moore ("The End of the Affair"), Meryl Streep ("Music of the Heart") and Golden Globe winners Hilary Swank ("Boys Don't Cry") and Janet McTeer ("Tumbleweeds"). The SAG awards will be presented March 12.
