The Yankees' Darryl Strawberry, who has been suspended twice by Major League Baseball due to off-the-field problems, has tested positive for cocaine, shocked baseball fans learned Tuesday. Strawberry, who has been treated for substance abuse in the past, was arrested last year on charges of soliciting sex from an undercover police agent and possession of cocaine. This new revelation comes as a result of a routine physical exam required under the terms of his current probation. Baseball commissioner Bud Selig is expected to announce by the end of the week whether or not he'll take disciplinary action against the eight-time All-Star slugger who has 332 homers to his name. Strawberry, who's been working out with the World Series champions at Legends Field in Tampa (and was set to make $750,000 this season), isn't officially due for spring training camp until today. He refused comment on the positive test, as did Selig and the Yankees. Given that he'll turn 38 next month, Strawberry, say some sports observers, could be facing the end of his career.
