A Bodyguard for Rosie's Kid

09/11/1998 at 12:00 AM EDT

Rosie O'Donnell plans to send a bodyguard to accompany her 4-year-old son Parker to kindergarten in Greenwich, Conn., this fall. O'Donnell told the Associated Press that the move is necessary because of threats made against her in response to her vocal gun control stance. Greenwich school superintendent Roger Lulow has given his permission for the bodyguard to escort Parker. Although the guard has applied for a concealed weapon permit, O'Donnell said the gun will not be on him at school. O'Donnell was a high profile supporter of the recent Million Mom March in Washington D.C. that rallied for stricter gun laws. As for having an armed security man for her child, Rosie reasoned, "I don't personally own a gun. But if you are qualified, licensed and registered, I have no problem."
