Imus Hospitalized: Horse Fall

09/03/1998 AT 12:00 AM EDT

Radio host Don Imus suffered five broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken collar bone and separated his shoulder after being thrown 10 feet up in the air off a horse on his New Mexico ranch on Sunday, listeners to his show heard this morning. "Imus in the Morning" news anchor Charles McCord said that Imus is in the hospital out West and is "described in stable condition, alert and resting comfortably." No word on when Imus, 59, will return to the air, said McCord, who added, "He's going to be out of commission for a little while." Imus, the host of WFAN's nationally syndicated radio show out of New York, which is also broadcast on TV's MSNBC, is said to be establishing a ranch near his home in Ribera, N.M., as a retreat for sick children.
