Basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was arrested Tuesday night in Southern California's San Fernando Valley on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana, said Los Angeles police. The onetime Laker MVP was booked and released on his own recognizance. A police spokesman told the Associated Press that drug tests are pending. (The athlete was caught with pot once before, in a Toronto airport. He has said he uses the drug to alleviate migraine headaches.) Apparently, Kareem, 53, was nabbed on Tuesday after being pulled over for speeding. The arresting officer, according to a police spokesman, smelled marijuana coming out of the open car window. "Mr. Abdul-Jabbar was very respectful of the officers who arrested him, and very cooperative," the spokesman added.
